Authorities identified Corinna Pope as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred Thursday morning in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 14 between Killeen and Copperas Cove.
According to a news release, Corinna Lee Ann-Nadine Pope, 30, of Lampasas, attempted to cross the interstate at about 4 a.m. Thursday morning. A 2013 Dodge pickup truck traveling eastbound in the outside lane of IH-14 struck her. The truck driver, a 46-year-old male from Copperas Cove, stopped to render aid. At that moment, an unidentified vehicle traveling eastbound in the inside lane struck Corinna Pope a second time. The second vehicle did not stop and continued eastbound.
Pope failed to yield right of way to the Dodge pickup and was pronounced deceased on scene by Justice of the Peace Bill Price at 6:45 a.m. The crash investigation is active and open.
Traffic stalled in the eastbound lanes for miles.
Law enforcement officials diverted all traffic from the highway at Bell Tower Road. The highway reopened, and traffic patterns returned to normal at 10:30 a.m.
